Gianni Gagliardo buys Barbera producer in Nizza
Barolo producer Gianni Gagliardo has ended its two-year search for a Barberaproducing wine estate in the newly created Nizza DOCG zone by acquiring Tenuta Garetto. The fee was not disclosed.
‘ We have great old vines there, superb soil and exposure,’ Gagliardo said. ‘ We see a strong similarity between Barolo and Nizza. In both cases there is a special connection of grape variety and place.’
Garetto occupies 15ha of the Nizza Monferrato commune in Piedmont. It produces Barbera wines under the Nizza DOCG, established only since 2014, as well as Barbera d’Asti DOCG and Barbera d’Asti Superiore wines.
