China’s cel­e­brates na­tion’s first Master Som­me­lier

Lu Yang MS, cor­po­rate wine direc­tor for Shangri-La Ho­tels, has suc­cess­fully nav­i­gated the latest ex­ams to be­come the first Chi­nese Master Som­me­lier.

He told De­canter: ‘ I hope that my mod­er­ate achieve­ment can en­cour­age more som­me­liers, and I firmly be­lieve that very soon we will see more Chi­nese som­me­liers join­ing the MS team.’

Also se­cur­ing the vaunted MS lapel pin were Ste­fan Neu­mann, head som­me­lier at Din­ner by He­ston Blu­men­thal, and Piotr Pi­etras, head som­me­lier at Launce­s­ton Place and the sec­ond Pol­ish MS in his­tory.
