Cume do Avia, Colleita 2, Ribeiro 2014 95 PBT 95 SJE 95 CP 95
N/A UK www.cumedoavia.biolinked.com Cume do Avia released its first vintage as recently as 2013, having been established by a group of young winemakers in 2005. They now have 9ha dedicated to 12 different indigenous varieties, as well as a vine nursery for massal selection. The vines for this blend of 51% Caíño Longo, 26% Brancellao and 23% Sousón were planted in 2008/9, on the slopes of San Cibrao in the Avia river valley. The soil, rich in granite and schist, is tended biodynamically, and the wine itself is bottled with very little sulphur after 10 months ageing in vat.
PBT Suave aromas of mint-laden blueberry fruit lead to a beautifully structured palate bristling with wild fruit and almost explosive acidity. Amazing, and unique.
SJE Even with three years of age, this is very fresh, penetrating, concentrated and long, crammed with raspberry and brambled fruit, while a rasp of tannin adds texture. Superbly original, a real discovery.
CP Raw berries and honeysuckle on the nose. Layers of flavour, from cocoa to baked peach, blackberries and autumn leaves to pomegranate syrup. Tannins are rustic, but the effect is refreshing and mouthfilling. Such an exciting wine, completely different to anything else.
