My top three
Sarah Jane Evans MW
Adega Algueira, Merenzao, Ribeira Sacra 2014
It’s not too much to say that the best wines in the tasting were magical. None more so than this Merenzao: deceptively pale, nevertheless bursting with flavour. 95 Drink 2017-2021
Cume do Avia, Colleita 2, Ribeiro 2014
Caíño Longo, Brancellao, Sousón: a feast of varieties from this young business of organic growers, named after the nearby river Avia. This fine blend is fresh, laden with raspberry and brambles, delicate and refined. 95 Drink 2017-2021
Señorío de Rubiós, Manuel d’Amaro Pedral, Rías Baixas 2015
Pedral is another of Galicia’s delightful scarcities. Generous with red fruit, a balancing rasp of tannin, and a delightful, persistent finish. Very fresh. Hope to see more planted! 93 Drink 2017-2021
