Direct-to-consumer wines
A report on the direct-to-consumer (DTC) wine market in the US showed strong growth, with wines shipped directly from wineries accounting for 10% of retail sales in 2017. Total DTC shipments in 2017 rose by 15.3% in volume and 15.5% in value from 2016, to the equivalent of 5.78 million 12-bottle cases and $2.69 billion.
The figures were released by Sovos ShipCompliant and publication Wines & Vines. The report’s analysts believe the $3 billion mark is in reach in 2018.
While California currently makes up 30% of the DTC market, the figures showed a broad demand across the US.
