Impressions of India

HAVING MOVED FROM Hong Kong to mumbai i have ‘bottle shock’. Leaving a market that has no tax on wine to one that charges 158% on imports you can see why! a great thing about wine, however, is that many countries have it – or at least have a go at it. i’ve been pleasantly surprised at the quality that some indian wine producers have bottled. so i appeal to readers: next time you frequent an indian restaurant (outside of india) and spot an indian wine on the list, have a go! For now, the quality of Decanter is such that i can still enjoy my ‘usual’ wines – albeit on a page and not in a glass. Mark Sutch, Mumbai, India
