Raise the Teutonic

-

I WAS DELIGHTED to read elin mccoy’s column ( January 2018 issue) on german wines and Rieslings, as i’ve recently become a convert to both. For many years i was guilty of tarring all german wines with a negative brush. this was totally unfounded and unfair, but due in part to the mass-produced sweet wines of old. but after a trip there last year i decided to give germany and its Rieslings another chance.

it has been a fascinating journey to taste and learn about the different levels of quality and sweetness in german Riesling. as i have now expanded my wine horizons i’m now shouting from the rooftops about the grape and germany to all comers, and enjoying the diversity of the Riesling styles and the famous german attention to detail that is obviously evident in their vineyards. next stop: sekt.
