£12.50 The Wine Society A deliciously original organic rosé from Calabria’s Marsigliana Nera grape, planted just 500m from the Ionian Sea along the panoramic coastal road of Serralombardi Scassabarile. It has vibrant aromas of cherry pastille and pear, leading to a naturally ripe and juicy yet bone-dry palate. Moreish and very quaffable – a perfect wine to take on a picnic or to have with antipasti. Alc 12.5%

Domaine Julien Sunier, Régnié, Beaujolais, France 2016 92 £20.95 Berry Bros & Rudd Sunier farms biodynamically and works as naturally as possible in the winery – here, grapes mature in concrete tanks and neutral barrels before being bottled unfiltered. Incredible vitality and purity of crunchy strawberry fruit with savoury autumnal depth. Alc 12% Jim Barry, The Lodge Hill Shiraz, Clare Valley, South Australia 2015 90 £9.99 Co-op, Tesco The Barry family is a stalwart of the Clare Valley and the wines (made by Peter and son Tom) are always reliable. This bargain drop is packed with inky dark fruits, sweeter jammy hints and creamy, meaty, leathery notes from time spent in French and US oak. Alc 14% Bodegas Aroa, Le Naturel, Navarra, Spain 2017 89 £11.99 Majestic This might be billed as Majestic’s first ‘natural’ wine – but don’t let that put you off! Yes, it’s made from organic Grenache grapes, using minimal intervention and no added sulphites and bottled unfiltered, but it’s not extreme at all, just tasty, bold, primary cherry flavours. And it’s even vegan too. Alc 14% Renacati, CarignanPetite Sirah, Judean Hills, Israel 89 £11 Marks & Spencer This cuvée, from 80% dryfarmed Carignan, is a firm M&S customer favourite. And the new vintage doesn’t disappoint: smooth and creamy palate of tart dark berry fruit with gentle spicing and firm tannins from eight months in French oak. Easy drinking – vegan and kosher too. Alc 14% Berry Bros & Rudd, Pinot Noir by Greystone Wines, North Canterbury, New Zealand 2015 90 £17.95 Berry Bros & Rudd Greystone has vineyards on the slopes of the Omihi Hills, making its first vintage in 2008. This is a top Pinot for the price, offering savoury cherry-berry fruit, herbal lift and dusty tannins. Sappy and juicy, it’s a fine Burgundy alternative. Alc 13% The Society’s, Exhibition Carmènere, Colchagua, Chile 2016 90 £11.95 The Wine Society Made for The Wine Society by Koyle, from cooler hillside vineyards in Alto Colchagua. This is a classic example of Carmenère, boasting dense mulberry and bramble fruit, pepper, clove and cedar oak notes and bright acidity. Claret lovers will enjoy this. Alc 14% I Campi, Campo Ciotoli, Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore, Veneto, Italy 2015 89 £19 Big Red Wine Co An easy-drinking blend of mainly Covina and Corvinone that would benefit from breathing before serving. A year of ageing in barriques has given a spicy vanilla creaminess to balance the fresh acidity and high-toned, savoury cherry fruit. Alc 14.5% Quinta do Noval, 10 Year Old Tawny Port, Douro, Portugal NV 90 £25 Ocado, Tanners, Waitrose Port is not just a winter drink and Tawnies, like white Ports, are delicious chilled in summer. This tastes older than the 10 Year designation suggests, packed with toasted nuts, raisins, figs, orange peel and spice. Deliciously complex, with a long finish. Alc 19.5%
