Decanter average score: 95/100pts Individual judges’ scores: Alistair Cooper MW 94 Dirceu Vianna Junior MW 95 Peter Richards MW 95 £15.99 Banstead Vintners With its name of Croatian origin, Matetic Vineyards is based in the Rosario Valley of San Antonio appellation, founded in 1999. This family winery is fully biodynamic and organic, respecting the terroir and land over its four estates and vineyards in San Antonio and Casablanca valleys, covering an impressive 160ha. The Corralillo range is named in recognition of a very old cellar in the local area. The fruit for this wine comes from Colchaguan soils, granitic in nature, mixed with clays, lime and organic matter. The wine has a small percentage of Syrah added and is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months.

Alistair Cooper MW Lifted balsamic notes with lovely sweet cassis and violets. Lovely pink grapefruit-style acidity with rounded tannins and a nice clovey, black pepper spice. This gives lovely pleasure at the moment. Drinking beautifully.

Dirceu Vianna Junior MW Elegant and restrained with aromas of dark fruits, grapefruit, pencil shavings, cedar, spice and black pepper. Intriguing, complex and pleasant spiciness on the finish.

Peter Richards MW Peppery, juicy, vaguely bloody aromas. Elegant lift to the finish. Touch of tobacco age. It’s soft and savoury, elegantly drinkable and moreish. Well made in a mezzoforte accent. Nice blend too, with a bit of Syrah pepper and spice. Love this wine – so much enjoyment here. So drinkable.
