15,000 pints in lockdown
A MICKLEOVER pub has managed to sell more than 15,000 pints during lockdown.
The Hole In The Wall has done a roaring trade after launching a takeaway service following the Government’s lockdown restrictions on pubs and restaurants.
The pub held its grand opening on March 12 – only eight days before the lockdown rules were imposed.
The Hole In The Wall has three sister pubs: the Greyhound and the Tap, which are situated in Derby city centre, and the Pig in Litchfield.
Pub manager John Moore, 53, said: “There has been a brilliant community feel throughout Mickleover and they’ve been great to us. It was rammed every day before lockdown began. A lot more than we expected but we knew restrictions would come into place sooner or later.”
They were able to stay open by offering customers a takeaway service of original real ales served in plastic containers – and have managed to sell more than 15,000 pints during lockdown.
Mr Moore said: “There was confusion about what we could do when it all began. Luckily we were able to stay open by classing ourselves as an off license.”
Following the easing of restrictions last Saturday Mr Moore said business may be returning to normal.
“We’ve been fully booked most days for customers wanting to sit in so we’re still offering our takeaway service. We are checking the news and lists of cities at risk so until we see a clear threat it’s not something that we will worry about.”
