Road closed after tractor catches fire

-

A FIRE involving a tractor led to the closure of a Derby road.

Acorn Way, on the border of Chaddesden and Spondon, was shut in both directions yesterday evening as highways crews worked to recover the burnt-out vehicle.

The tractor was “well alight” and the blaze had spread to trees by the side of the road when two fire crews arrived at the scene.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted:

“1625 hrs #AscotDrive_Green #Kingsway_Green attended Acorn Way, Spondon, the incident involved one JCB vehicle well alight, the fire spread to trees, two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the fire, police and highways also attended.”

Officers from Derbyshire police remained at the scene into the evening as recovery work continued.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Acorn Way in #Derby is currently closed in both directions due to a tractor fire. Please avoid the area taking alternative routes where possible.”

According to traffic information service Inrix, the road was still closed from Raynesway to Morley Road at 8pm.
