Another 25 are told they have Covid-19

ANOTHER 25 new positive cases of coronaviru­s have been confirmed in Derbyshire in the past 24 hours until yesterday, according to Government figures.

No new deaths have been recorded in NHS trusts operating in the county.

A further 20 cases were recorded in Derby, making a total of 1,601 positive tests since the start of the pandemic. The wider county has now recorded 4,161 cases, up from 4,136 on Sunday.

The Government said that as of 9am on Monday, there had been a further 4,368 lab-confirmed cases of coronaviru­s in the UK. Overall, 398,625 cases have been confirmed.

It also said a further 11 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday.

This brings the UK total to 41,788.

Locally, the number of Covidrelat­ed deaths since the start of the pandemic are as follows:

■■Derbyshire Healthcare - 2 In Staffordsh­ire, there have now been 4,750 confirmed cases, a rise of 32 cases over the last day.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock told the Commons yesterday on testing and contact tracing: “Our daily testing capacity is now at a record high 253,521 and it continues to grow.”

He added: “The system relies on people coming forward for tests if and only if they have symptoms of coronaviru­s or have been specifical­ly advised to by a health profession­al.”
