Bradley gets on his bike for cancer nurses after royal plea

-

A PUB worker has got on his bike to raise hundreds of pounds for a vital cancer charity.

Bradley Shaw, who works at the Tall Chimney Hungry Horse in Swadlincote, did a static bike ride for 10 hours, raising £562.49 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

It came as Prince Charles encouraged people to brew up for the charity’s annual coffee morning tomorrow.

Due to the Covid pandemic and the rule of six, people can host a socially-distanced stall on their doorstep, hold a virtual get-together, take on a fitness challenge or upload a “Raising a Mug” selfie and donate.

The Prince, Macmillan’s patron, said in a video message: “Over the years it has become not only a formidable fundraising campaign, raising an incredible £27.4 million last year, but also an invaluable opportunity for friends and family to come together to share experiences and to ‘raise a cuppa’ to those affected by cancer.

“It truly represents the very best of British community spirit – and, in current times, we are learning just how powerful communities can be, especially in a crisis.

“Macmillan works tirelessly across all areas – physical, emotional and financial – to support people when they need it most.”

Michelle Sunman, general manager of the Tall Chimney, was delighted with Bradley’s fundraising. On Saturday, the team will be dressing up along the lines of care workers to raise more. Two team members will also be doing a sponsored walk. Michelle said: “I am so proud of Bradley, he is an asset to the Tall Chimney. I am really looking forward to welcoming our customers to help us raise the much-needed funds for Macmillan.”
