Four areas where Covid-19 is on the rise

-

FOUR Derbyshire areas have seen an increase in new cases of Covid-19 recently, new figures have revealed.

Public Health England lists the number of new coronavirus cases registered by every local authority, with nine Derbyshire districts among those ranked.

The latest figures, for the week leading up to Sunday, September 20, show that four districts have seen increases in new infections – Derby, Erewash, Derbyshire Dales and South Derbyshire.

Derby saw a slight rise in the number of new cases recorded, with 83, up from the 72 registered for the previous week. This equates to a seven-day rate of 32.3 new cases per 100,000 people, which is marginally higher than nearby Nottingham’s figure of 31.8.

The new infection rate in Derby and Nottingham remains well below that seen in Leicester, where 103.3 new cases per 100,000 people were recorded.

Elsewhere, new cases more than doubled in the Derbyshire Dales, which jumped from six new cases to 16 being recorded in the latest data.

Erewash saw a rise of seven, with 32 new infections, compared to the 25 recorded in the previous week.

There was an increase of nine in South Derbyshire, which went from 21 to 30 new cases recorded.

Promisingly, the other five Derbyshire areas, including Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire, saw a decrease in the number of new cases recorded.

Once again, no Derbyshire districts sit among the 50 worst-hit authority areas nationally.

The full list of local data below shows the seven-day rate per 100,000 people for the week up to September 20 (with new confirmed cases in brackets). The second set of numbers show the same, but for the week up until September 13.
