Gran’s joy at £200k lottery win

A DERBYSHIRE grandmothe­r is celebratin­g after winning £206,265 on the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Gran-of-seven Jacqui Corden, of Long Eaton, said she was “floating on air” after she found out about the win – and plans on buying a twoseater sports car to enjoy on trips out with her dog.

The 69-year-old was one of 1,236 neighbours who shared a £3 million prize pot after their postcode sector, NG10 3, was announced as the winner of the Postcode Millions prize.

Like Jacqui, those playing in the full winning postcode, NG10 3QA, won the lion’s share of the prize and were presented with their cheques on a video call with lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson. The five big winners each won with cheques for £206,265.

Jacqui was at home with her partner James, 80, and her fiveyear-old dog Rolo when Danyl called.

Jacqui said: “Oh my God!

I can’t believe this, it’s absolutely incredible. I never win anything. This really will make such a difference to our lives. I’m honestly on cloud nine right now.”

Jacqui and James, who are both retired, have plans to go on a cruise next year but Jacqui said: “I’d love to buy a two-seater sports car, not for me and James but for me and Rolo!”

The couple didn’t have any big plans for celebratin­g their win but were looking forward to sharing a fish supper and a bottle of prosecco that evening.

Jacqui said; “2020 is not as bad as we thought it was going to be” be.”

Next to receive her cheque was Dorothy Griffin, 75, who was joined by husband Barry, 78, when she found out she had won £206,265 and shared her plans to visit Australia with her winnings.

Dorothy said: “We retired in 2005 and spent two and half months travelling in Australia and New Zealand

and have always wanted to go back. back It’s nice to know we can travel in business class now!”

Dorothy, who is about to celebrate her 76th birthday, was stunned when Danyl revealed her cheque and kept asking if he was joking about the amount she had won.

Barry said: “This money will give us a lot more freedom. You’ve made us incredibly happy in our twilight years.”

The other three winners chose to remain anonymous.

Prize sums for the remaining 1,231 players in the sector ranged from £1,445 to £7,225, depending on the number of tickets played with.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson said: “It’s always the best part of my job meeting the winners and telling them exactly how much they’ve won, and I have loved meeting Jacqui and Dorothy today.

“I’d like to wish everyone who has won in Long Eaton a massive congratula­tions, I hope they all enjoy spending their winnings!”

It’s not just players who win with People’s Postcode Lottery – good causes win, too. With a minimum of 32% from each ticket going to charity, players have raised more than £600 million for thousands of charities and good causes.

Local charities have also benefitted from funding raised by players too including Headway Nottingham. The charity received £14,855 to support the Brain Injury Outreach project which allowed them to provide injury-specific support and provide access to rehabilita­tion services.

September’s Postcode Millions draw was held on behalf of Postcode Education Trust. The trust provides financial support to charities and good causes which encourage, inspire or support people with education and learning.

Four people in Mickleover are also celebratin­g after winning big through the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Residents in Corden Avenue netted £1,000 each thanks to their lucky postcode.

The DE3 9AQ was announced as a Daily Prize winner with People’s Postcode Lottery on Sunday,September 27.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt said: “What fantastic news to top off your weekend! Congratula­tions to our winners, I hope they have fun spending their winnings.”
