Held an early effort from Stiepermann but that was the home side’s only effort on target in the first half. Excellent saves in the second half to deny Max Aaarons and Jordan Hugill. Vital stops.

NATHAN BYRNE 7

A superb last-ditch sliding challenge denied Hernandez early on when conceding early would have been a real blow.

GEORGE EVANS 7

Said it before, centre-back is his best position. He can see the picture from there and is comfortable on the ball. Conceded a penalty when his arm was high to block a shot from Hernandez but Pukki missed the spot kick.

CURTIS DAVIES 8

Real desire to defend, no-nonsense defending. Helped to tighten Derby defensively, which was needed. Never underestimate the value of experience and know-how.

MATT CLARKE 7

Good to see him back in the side after surprisingly being left out in the previous game.

LEE BUCHANAN 7

Worked hard as the left wing-back but found wanting defensively at times up against the speedy Max Aarons. More solid in the second half and won his share of headers.

GRAEME SHINNIE 8

Did a lot of the gritty, snappy, important work that can go unnoticed and what the team was missing against Blackburn.

JASON KNIGHT 8

Worked tirelessly in tandem with Shinnie to try and offer as much of a screen as possible for the back four. Looked happier in central midfield, where he probably feels more involved in the game. A ferocious appetite for hard work.

DUANE HOLMES 6

Good energy on the right, some bright moments, still working his way back. Just needs to sharpen that end product at times.

WAYNE ROONEY 7

Played up front, which was not easy against Norwich’s two centre-backs, and almost rolled back the years when he stretched to reach a centre in the first half but his volley flew just wide. Scored the winning goal with a delicious free kick late on.

KAMIL JOZWIAK 6

A couple of jinking runs at pace in the first half that had Norwich backpedalling.
