Drink-driver was taken to hospital after A6 car crash

-

A DRINK-driver who was twice the legal limit had to be taken to hospital after her car came off a busy Derby road and became embedded in trees.

Police were called to the A6 Alvaston bypass, after reports of a crash.

When officers attended, they found the car had come off the carriageway and driver Caroline Evans was still at the scene – before she was sent to hospital.

District Judge Andrew Meachin, who presided over the case at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court, handed 36-year-old Evans a fine for her actions and banned her from driving.

The court heard the incident took place on March 5, at 9.40pm.

Becky Allsop, prosecuting, said: “Police were called to reports of a one-vehicle collision. The vehicle was driven by the defendant. The vehicle had left the carriageway and was embedded in trees. The defendant was still at the scene. She was taken to hospital. A urine procedure commenced which gave a reading of 219 milligrams, in 100 millilitres of urine.”

The legal limit is 107 for urine. Amjid Ibrahim, mitigating, told the court Evans entered a guilty plea.

He said: “She is of good character, with no previous at all. She was just over twice the limit. Damage was caused to her own car more than anything else. It was the first time she had been arrested. She entered a guilty plea.”

Evans, of Sackville Road, Derby, pleaded guilty to one charge of drink driving. She was fined £250 and disqualified from driving for 20 months. She was then ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and court costs of £85. This took her total to pay to £367.
