Derby folk urged ‘do the right thing’ and stick to the rules

-

RESIDENTS in Derby have been warned not to mix with households in level two or three areas under the Government’s new three-tier lockdown system.

Neighbouring Nottingham has been placed under stricter Tier 2 restrictions, as have parts of northern Derbyshire.

This means that you are not allowed to socialise indoors with anybody who is not part of your household or support bubble. Two households may meet in a private garden as long as the rule of six and social distancing is followed.

If cases continue to rise in Derby, it is likely that the city will be moved up to Tier 2 to reduce further transmission.

In the seven days up to October 9, there were 100 cases of coronavirus per 100,000 people in Derby, against a national average of 77 and 258 new cases in the same period. In Erewash, on the border with Nottinghamshire, the seven-day average up to October 9 was 146 cases per 100,000, with 168 new cases in the same period.

Dr Robyn Dewis, Derby City Council director of public health, said: “Current guidance and restrictions remain the same for our city, and we are glad to see that our businesses can stay open and that we can continue to see family and loved ones, while adhering to the rule of six.

“We should, however, all avoid mixing with households in Tier 2 or 3 areas and remember the everimportant guidance of keeping our distance and washing our hands.

“By doing the right thing for Derby we can help to slow the rate of transmission and hopefully reduce the possibility of harsher lockdown restrictions being imposed in the area.”
