Seven-day figures show extent of rising infection rate

LATEST figures from Public Health England for the week leading up to Friday, October 9, show that all nine local areas once again saw increases in the number of new Covid-19 infections recorded.

North East Derbyshire has the county’s highest new infection rate, after 166 new cases were recorded, up from the 97 registered for the previous week. This equates to a seven-day rate of 163.6 new cases per 100,000 people.

Not far behind sits High Peak, with a similar weekly rate of 161.9 new cases per 100,000 people. A total of 150 new infections were recorded here, up from 110.

Four other Derbyshire districts recorded seven-day rates of more than 100 new cases per 100,000 people – Erewash, Chesterfie­ld, Bolsover, and Derby.

The city of Derby recorded a weekly rate of 100.3 new cases per 100,000 people. A total of 258 new cases were registered, up from 194 the previous week.

For comparison, nearby Leicester saw 159.5 new cases per 100,000 people over the same time period.

Nottingham continues to have the highest seven-day rate in England, after 2,777 new cases were recorded – the equivalent of 834.2 new cases per 100,000 people.

Once again, no Derbyshire districts sit among the 50 worst-hit authority areas nationally.

The full list of local data below shows the seven-day rate per 100,000 people for the week up to October 9 (with new confirmed cases in brackets).

The second set of numbers show the same, but for the week up until October 2.
