7 areas of county that risk slipping into a stricter lockdown
TWO PARTS OF DERBY AMONG THOSE IDENTIFIED
PARTS of Derbyshire could be at risk of joining the areas of the county that have been placed in tier two lockdown.
The Glossopdale area of High Peak had extra coronavirus restrictions placed upon it earlier this week after cases failed to drop.
As a result the Government has imposed a ban on people from different households mixing indoors, put an emphasis that people should only travel if essential and said that spectators are not allowed to watch professional or amateur sport.
Between October 2 and October 8 there were 160 new cases per 100,000 in the High Peak area, most of which were centred around four areas.
These areas, defined by Public Health England (PHE) and based on populations of around 7,200 people, are Hadfield West and Gamesley; Hadfield East and Tintwistle; Dinting, Simmondley and Charlesworth; as well as Glossop itself.
This could be a warning for other parts of Derbyshire, as although these areas have seen high rates of infection, other parts of the county have seen increasing numbers of new cases too.
For the purposes of monitoring Covid, the Government has split up the country into areas each having a population of roughly 7,500.
SAWLEY
Located just to the south of Long Eaton in Erewash, Sawley has the highest number of positive test results in Derbyshire in an area that is not in tier two restrictions.
It had the second-highest confirmed new cases of all Derbyshire areas in this time period with 29.
Only Hadfield West and Gamesley in Glossopdale had more with 38.
Long Eaton South, which is located next to Sawley, had 16 new cases as well, something that could be linked to infections in nearby Nottingham.
NORTH WINGFIELD AND PILSLEY
These two villages have the highest number of infections in North East Derbyshire.
The latest figures show that between October 3 and October 9 there were 24 positive results in the area. This is higher than all but one of the areas of Glossopdale that are currently in tier two.
SPITAL AND HASLAND
Spital and Hasland has the highest number of confirmed cases in Chesterfield.
The figures show that these two suburbs had 21 confirmed cases of Covid-19 between October 3 and
October 9. This means it has the same number of cases as Dinting, Simmondley and Charlesworth in High Peak, which has extra restrictions in place.
NEW NORMANTON
With 19 cases in this time period, New Normanton has the highest number of cases in Derby.
It also has many more cases than neighbouring areas of the city, which has been placed in tier one – medium Covid alert level.
Normanton North and Peartree had three cases during the same time period, while Rose Hill and Castleward had six.
MICKLEOVER NORTH
Mickleover North has the secondhighest number of cases in Derby according to the latest figures.
With 18 cases between October 3 and October 9, the Derby suburb has more cases than Glossop itself, which has 16.
Meanwhile, nearby Mickleover South has 13 cases, bringing the combined total for the area up to 31.
DRONFIELD TOWN AND UNSTONE
Lying between Chesterfield and Sheffield, Dronfield Town and Unstone had 18 cases recorded during this time period.
This could be linked to high numbers of infections in Sheffield, which has been placed in tier two by the Government. Meanwhile, nearby Dronfield South and Gosforth Lane saw 15 new cases between October 3 and October 9.
ASHGATE AND BROCKWELL
This area includes suburbs of Brockwell and Ashgate in Chesterfield.
There were 17 new cases of coronavirus recorded here between October 3 and October 9, one of the highest in the county.
Other parts of the town have seen a similar number of cases, with Central Chesterfield and Stonegravels having 13 reported cases.
