People having sex and taking drugs at beauty spot car park
CANOODLING couples and cases of drug taking have all been taking place in a Derbyshire beauty spot car park, it has been revealed.
Large groups have also been meeting and setting off fireworks at the spot and young people have been meeting there to engage in antisocial behaviour and sexual activity at the car parks at Staunton Harold Reservoir, near Melbourne.
The Melbourne and Mercia Police Safer Neighbourhood Team, which is an arm of Derbyshire police, received several reports of incidents in the car parks last week, which took place after dark and while the car parks were closed.
As a result, officers from the team are now conducting regular patrols at the car parks near to the reservoir.
On Friday, November 20, officers attended one of the car parks following reports of anti-social behaviour and stopped a vehicle.
A woman was driving the car and was searched for drugs. The team said she was tested for drugs at the scene, which showed she had taken them.
The woman was arrested and taken to custody. A spokesman for the safer neighbourhood team said: “Car parks are for parking cars, not for antisocial behaviour.
“To most of us a car park is a place used for the purpose of parking motor vehicles. Sometimes this means manoeuvring in and out of an available space.
“Naturally, car parks should only be entered when they are open for public use. Sadly, some people in the Melbourne and Mercia area have decided to use car parks for other, less honourable purposes.
“In the last week, police have attended several incidents at car parks at Staunton Harold Reservoir, near Melbourne, when they were closed to the public.
“These imprudent activities have included reports of large groups setting off fireworks; young persons engaged in antisocial behaviour; and other inappropriate after-dark activities, including couples having sex there.
“Please remember car parks are there for a specific purpose. When they’re closed, keep away.”
