PAINT THE WHOLE WORLD WITH A NEON GLOWSTICK RAINBOW

-

THIS project is great for brightening up long, dark evenings after school.

Making a light sculpture sounds tricky, but this one is really easy and looks pretty impressive.

Don’t worry if you don’t have the exact rainbow colours, you can make any colour pattern.

The rainbow should glow for a few hours.

When it fades, you can always put new, bright glowsticks in.

YOU WILL NEED

Six glowsticks in different colours

A small cardboard box (a stock cube box or mini cereal box is ideal) Cotton wool

A glue stick

A very sharp pencil

A ball of Blu Tack or plasticine

Clear tape

METHOD

1. Gently peel open the seams of your cardboard box so it can be laid out flat. Turn it over so the plain side is facing out and glue the longest seam back together again. You should now have a plain surface to work on – essentially an inside-out box.

2. You now need to make six holes on each end for your glowsticks to go into. Use a ruler to measure out where your holes need to go.

3. Put a ball of Blu Tack or plasticine inside the top corner of the end of the box and push a really sharp pencil down through the cardboard into the Blu Tack to make a small hole.

4. Repeat for the other holes, moving the tack each time, and eventually you will have six holes on both ends (see below left).

5. Seal the ends of your box. Use a glue stick to glue all over the top and sides of your box. Take some small pieces of cotton wool and stick them evenly all over to make a cloud.

6. Leave the holes uncovered for now.

7. Bend your glow sticks to activate them and put each end into opposite holes on your box (see below right).

8. Secure the arch underneath with a small piece of clear tape if necessary, to keep the glowsticks in line.

9. Finally, push the cotton wool around the holes to hide them, and enjoy watching your sculpture glow.
