Snow way all this really happened 10 years ago

-

IT might have been a bit chillier of late but nothing compared to the weather ten years ago when many places, including Derbyshire, experienced November snowfall - the most widespread in the British Isles since 1993.

The weather failed to affect the football and Derby County were in a run of good form, which saw them go into December fourth in the first division under manager Nigel Clough. They had a 3–2 win over Scunthorpe United, despite being reduced to 10 men after Gareth Roberts became the first

Ram to be sent off that season.

The victory was the club’s sixth consecutive home win, with 20 goals scored in the process, setting a record at Pride Park, and was the club’s best run of home form for over 15 years. It also saw Robbie Savage and Kris Commons named in the division’s Team of the Week.

The month ended with a 2–1 defeat away to Burnley.

Ahead of Christmas, amateur dramatic groups were busy rehearsing including Mickleover Players, who were preparing for a production of Cinderella.

On the professional front, Neil

Morrissey was preparing to play Wishee Washee in Aladdin at the Assembly Rooms, and Wind in the Willows was due to be the production at Derby Theatre.

The lead up to the Christmas period is traditionally the time for giving and November 2010 was no exception as our photographs show donations to several charities plus the annual 10k pudding run organised by Heanor Rugby Club.

And you did not need snow or rain to flood houses in Hulland Ward – a burst water main was responsible for that.
