Store to star in fly-on-wall TV show
Po UNdLaNd is to feature in a fly-on-the-wall TV documentary showing how the discount retailer is going through the biggest transformation in its history.
Belper is the only derbyshire store to appear in the two-part programme, showing on Channel 4.
“Inside Poundland: Secrets from the Shopfloor” shows how the chain is weathering the high street storm caused by the coronavirus and long-term changes in shopping habits to be one of the few retailers in the UK that is investing in growth.
The Belper store is featured as the first in the country to stock the new Pep&Co Home range, from photo frames to throws.
The range was launched across all 800-plus stores in august following the success of PEP&Co clothing which celebrates its fifth birthday this year and is now in 300-plus stores.
Episode one will be shown on Channel 4 on Monday, december 7 at 9pm and episode two a week later on december 14 - with both installments available immediately on all-4 as a mini-boxset.
The documentary puts the spotlight on the dramatic changes under way as the store broadens its ranges and plans to open and re-site 45 stores in an investment of up to £15 million over the next 12 months.
That move comes on the heels of Poundland’s acquisition of specialist retailer Fultons Foods, which will create around 1,000 full and part-time roles over the next two years as Poundland rolls out chilled and frozen food to around 500 stores.
The program will show the new installation of frozen food to hundreds of stores - a project that was piloted in the ashbourne store last year, and saw pizzas fly off the shelves at £1 each.
The documentary also tracks the biggest transformation in its 30-history, as Poundland has broadened its ranges and dramatically changing the public’s perception of the stores.
The transformation programme that has seen the launch of PEP&Co fashion, chilled and frozen food and PEP&Co Home also includes trials of new ranges including beers, wines and spirits and free-from foods.
Poundland has also recruited 940 temporary colleagues across its estate in time to serve customers this Christmas.
