Perfect double bill... Xmas movies and a curry
A DERBY restaurant will be home to a drive-in cinema from December 15 as it tries to survive the coronavirus crisis.
Film fans will be treated to festive favourites including Elf, The Grinch and Home Alone in this Covid-secure cinema experience.
The Slice of India, next door to Rollerworld in Mansfield Road, will also be offering takeaway meals that can be delivered to people’s cars.
Unlike traditional drive-ins, the audio for every film will be played directly to the car radios, meaning viewers will be able to watch the films from the warmth of their vehicles.
The drive-in will be initially limited to 60 visitors, although Slice of India is hoping to expand numbers if these first showings prove to be a success and the restuarant is hopeful it can show a mixture of classic and new films.
The drive-in cinema is part of plans to help it survive while restaurants cannot have eat-in customers and can only operate as takeaways.
Ben Corner, group general manager at Slice of India, said: “The takeaway business is probably not even 10% of our trade and that’s all l we have left, it’s very quiet at the moment, relatively speaking. A lot of the staff have had to be furloughed. .
“The menu will be going live in the next couple of days, people can pre-order at a discounted rate or they can order on the day but the discount will only be to those who order in advance.”
Tickets to see films at Slice of India can be purchased at Cinema Hire. Pre-orders can be arranged by y calling Slice of India on 01332 292575 or by visiting their website. .
