Eight more deaths as county enters Tier 3

THERE have been eight more deaths from coronaviru­s recorded across Derbyshire in the past 24 hours, according to figures released by NHS England last night.

The Government said a further 648 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the UK total to 59,699.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificat­e, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 75,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government said that, as of 9am on Wednesday, there had been a further 16,170 lab-confirmed cases of coronaviru­s in the UK.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 1,659,256.

Cases in the city and county have gone up by 272. In Derby, there have been a further 63 cases recorded, bringing the total to 7,888.

Elsewhere, there have been rises of 38 in Amber Valley, 30 in Erewash, and 33 in South Derbyshire.

■Derbyshire Community Health Services 24 (no change)

■Derbyshire Healthcare 2 (no change).
