Hundreds of city pupils studying from home

-

HUNDREDS of pupils at Derby secondary schools have been told to study from home after several cases of Covid-19 were recorded.

At least three city schools have asked entire year groups to move to online learning, either for the remainder of this week or until the Christmas break.

On Monday, the Derby Telegraph reported that Year 9 at Littleover Community School had moved to online learning after a number of Covid-19 cases were recorded in the year group.

Yesterday, the Pastures Hill school announced that Year 10 has now also moved to a period of home learning, which will last two weeks.

This means that students in those two year groups will not return to the classroom until after the Christmas break on Monday, January 4.

A letter to parents and carers written by acting head teacher Jon Wilding was posted on the school’s website to confirm the news.

Elsewhere, two year groups at St Benedict Catholic Academy are currently studying from home.

Pupils in Year 8 have moved to remote learning after three pupils in the year group tested positive for the virus and a small number of other pupils developed some symptoms.

A letter, sent to parents and carers by head teacher Kevin Gritton, confirmed that Year 8 will return to school next Monday, December 14.

The Darley Abbey school had also announced that students in Year 12 are learning from home until Thursday, December 10. The move comes after two students in the sixth form year group tested positive for Covid-19.

Lees Brook Community School, in Chaddesden, has confirmed that students in Year 8 are isolating after a pupil in the year group tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, the City of Derby Academy, in Sinfin, has confirmed four further cases of Covid-19 among its pupils and teaching staff.

The students who have tested positive for the virus are in Year 9 and Year 10, a letter sent to parents and carers confirmed.

The Farmhouse Road school has told a number of students who have been in close contact with the infected pupils and staff to self-isolate and move to online learning.
