Kentucky fried Christmas

-

INSIDE KFC AT CHRISTMAS Channel 4, 9pm

IT MIGHT not sound like the most festive fare going (although it’s a December 25th tradition in Japan – obscure cultural fact fans), but KFC is pulling out all the stops to get people through its doors and drivethroughs this holiday season.

And this entertaining and surprisingly heart-warming documentary goes behind the scenes at just a few of the approximately 950 restaurants across the UK, to find out how the staff have coped with the toughest year in the company’s history.

Yes, Covid has been even more of a challenge than that time in 2018 when KFC literally ran out of chicken, and people called 999.

Staff are doing everything they can to get hungry punters flocking – launching a fashion line of KFC-themed Christmas jumpers (yes, really), going out wearing inflatable chicken costumes to stand at the side of the road and cluck people into submission, and launching a new festive burger.

Two years in the making, this calorieladen beast of a feast has the chain’s famous gravy at the heart of it (and dribbling all down the sides of it, too) meaning staff at two of its Northern branches – like chatterbox Anne, who works there with her son Jordan – are now basically on gravy duty 24/7, while assistant manager Adam runs staff role plays on how to cope with dissatisfied customers in the horrifying event that they run out of the liquid nectar.

The teams are also competing to win the fastest drive-through title – and a Christmas bonus.

They ALL deserve it, in our eyes.
