‘Sinking ship’ heading for pile of wet sponges
MR Morrissey clearly shows his gloom and doom expectations in case of a no-deal exit from the European Union, “PM shouldn’t take us down with sinking ship” (December 12).
He says firms like Toyota are anxiously awaiting the outcome of the present negotiations, which, I venture, are the feelings of most foreign companies that have “invested” here.
All of those firms have benefited this country in terms of jobs, taxes and other financial requirements, and, as our politicians have often reminded us, we who have voted for deliverance from the EU, they have been net investors.
Hmmm, say I, quite so, but these people have gambled upon a net profit - the best cuts from the haunch of venison to their shareholders.
In summation, we of the labouring classes are working for a bunch of foreigners! Our real motor manufacturing companies went under partially because of indifferent design, questionable workmanship, and rabid trade union leaders.
Mr Morrissey thinks the Prime Minister may wish to go down with the ship, but should not take the rest of us with him.
The “rest of us” did marginally vote to leave that lying, thieving and cheating Union way behind, and to live our own way despite the divisions of an uncodified British constitution, a democracy which works when invited, and a hollow English Bill of Rights. I voted in the ’75 referendum not to join Europe, but look where we now are.
The ship, Mr Morrissey, is heading not to a rocky shore but, hopefully, for just a pile of wet sponges.
