A DISGUSTING pile of fly-tipped waste has been found near a leafy Derbyshire village.

The mound of rubbish, which includes drug paraphernalia, gas canisters and even a container filled with urine, was found in Red Lane, near Repton, over the weekend.

It comes less than a week after officers from the Melbourne and Mercia Police Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) put up signs at the site urging people not to drop litter there.

Officers from Derbyshire police were left disappointed to find someone had torn down those signs and fly-tipped at the spot.

In a post on the Melbourne and Mercia Police SNT Facebook page, officers said it was “totally unacceptable” behaviour.

Those responsible even tore down signs urging people not to litter

They wrote: “Last week officers from your local SNT installed antisocial behaviour signage encouraging irresponsible and recalcitrant individuals to stop dropping litter and rubbish in our beautiful countryside on Red Lane, near Repton Shrubs. Our Bob returned to work today, after two rests days, to discover that some of the newlyinstalled signage had been ripped down and destroyed.

“And nearby, a mountain of rubbish had been dumped near an entrance to a farmer’s field.

“To make matters worse, unknown persons had tarnished countryside lanes by discarding unwanted items including a vessel containing urine, takeaway wrapper, gas canisters and drug paraphernalia.”

PCSO Greville, who attended the scene, said: “It was extremely disappointing to see our stunning, rural countryside blighted by a small minority of thoughtless and ignorant individuals.

“Officers will continue to patrol the area and take enforcement action to tackle antisocial behaviour in the area.

“This mindless activity is totally unacceptable and we will be redoubling our efforts to ensure that the local surroundings are respected and conserved.”

Anyone who has any information about what happened is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference 20*659720.
