Readers react at having to stay under the tightest coronavirus restrictions

-

PEOPLE in Derbyshire have reacted angrily to the decision to keep the county in Tier 3.

Derby and Derbyshire will be kept under the tightest restrictions amid rising numbers of Covid-19 infections, the Government announced yesterday.

The news was met with dismay from publicans in the area, who say they feel they are being unfairly targeted by Tier 3 rules which say they cannot . open.

Meanwhile, council leaders across the county have called for people to continue abiding by the restrictions in an effort to drive infection rates down and decrease the pressure on the NHS.

Upon hearing the news Derby Telegraph readers reacted angrily, with many directing their ire towards people who have not been adhering to the restrictions.

Commenting on the Derbyshire Live website, carbonbest wrote: “We are in Tier 3 because people have not been following the rules and think its a joke - probably still will.”

Derby born and bred agreed, writing: “Fully agree, as usual the majority suffer because of the mindless minority.

“People cannot be trusted, the Government are putting too much faith in the public over Christmas, this will bite us all in the backside.”

Many on Facebook said they were not surprised by the decision to keep the strictest measures in place.

Katie Rose wrote: “I’m sure if you ask the hospital staff and paramedics they will tell you exactly why we are in Tier 3, and need to be!”

Amanda Hall added: “Derbyshire staying in Tier 3. Not a surprise. What are you lot complaining about? If everyone follows the rules then the virus will reduce, clearly people not following the rules so we stay Tier 3.

“It’s our responsibility to follow the rules to improve things for us all and the NHS. Get real folks, this disease is a killer!”

Meanwhile, others on Facebook, such as Alison Kidd, questioned the wisdom of temporarily loosening the rules over the festive period.

“If they keep Christmas open for five days, we won’t be in a lower tier anytime soon,” she wrote.

“I will enjoy my Christmas day with my little five-person family, at home.”

Some, such as one user by the name of Dan Coopertrooper, were left unhappy with the rules being put in place.

He wrote: “I can go to the Intu and visit every shop in one afternoon, touch everything - but can’t go to a small, local, independently owned pub for a quiet pint. Ridiculous.”

Olivia Dominik wrote: “Great, not seeing my family even longer. Wish people would stick to the rules – I haven’t seen my mum properly since March. I had to see her on her front door on her birthday.”

Charlotte Millet took a lighter tone when reacting to the announcement.

She wrote: “Can’t even remember what a pub is at this point, I’m sure I used to quite like them though.”

Janette Browett wrote she was looking forward to a time when the rules would be lifted.

“It will be such a treat walking back in again and having a decent drink with friends and family,” she said.
