Pregnant consultant who battled Covid is a true Hero

-

A CHESTERFIELD Royal Hospital consultant has been recognised for her “amazing commitment” to provide care while pregnant during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Having worked in palliative care for two years, Caroline Facey was able to support the patients and families of those worst affected by coronavirus.

Caroline, 38, became pregnant with her first child in April, but continued to work through the summer. At 28 weeks, she was told to stop working with patients faceto-face, and is soon to give birth.

Caroline has been nominated as a Covid Hero by her partner Simon’s mum Sue Cliff, who wants to raise awareness of the commitment she has shown during the pandemic.

Sue, 64, said: “The job Caroline does in normal times is tough - helping the dying to go peacefully and the way they wish needs a certain type of person and strength.

“To add Covid into the mix must have been extremely difficult. Caroline is used to dealing with very poorly people and stepped up to working with Covid victims.

“She dealt with it all with her usual good humour and professionalism. We were concerned that she would contract Covid-19, and she did - thankfully only mildly. We are proud just to know her and have her in our lives, she is one of the fantastic NHS folks going above and beyond at the moment.”

Two associates at the Amazon fulfilment centre in Chesterfield have been nominated as Covid Heroes by colleagues.

Ellie Hands has been nominated by Andrew Milham for her fundraising efforts.

Tina Turtle, who also works at Amazon in Chesterfield, has been nominated by Ellie because of her equally impressive fundraising efforts.
