No more room for error now, says Ewe Rams’ boss
DERBY County Women’s manager Sam Griffiths has called for her team to hit straight back after being on the wrong end of a thriller last weekend.
The Ewe Rams are away to Loughborough Foxes in the FA Women’s National League Northern Division tomorrow and are still smarting from a 5-4 defeat to Sunderland Ladies on their return to league action.
“We’ve given ourselves work to do in the league and we know that we need to get another three points on the board on Sunday,” said Griffiths.
“We simply cannot afford to drop anymore points at this stage or we’ll give ourselves too much to do.
“Sunday was frustrating and, to be honest, Sunderland dealt with the conditions better than us initially and that was disappointing that we let them get too far ahead and leave ourselves too much to do.
“You cannot let a team of their quality get too far ahead and it’s ultimately cost us taking anything from the game.
“We’ve not dealt with situations defensively particularly well this season. We are making errors that are giving teams the opportunity to either stay in the game or get ahead of the game and that has been a consistent issue this season, which is not our usual characteristic.
“We’re not where we want to be defensively and that is something we really want to work out quickly.
“Loughborough will be looking to jump on any opportunity we give them and, as we say every week, the quality in this league will ensure that teams punish you.”
Plus points from the Sunderland defeat came with the return of Precious Hamilton and Hannah Keryakoplis to the side.
