Melvin’s mobile home has extra sparkle

-

CHRISTMAS lights have been spreading the festive cheer, but none more so than those at Alvaston Mobile Home Park.

Melvin Jenkins, 65, had never done anything for his chosen charity before his Christmas lights switch-on, but this year he decided to do things a little differently.

“I thought I’d expand it a bit and see what people thought. g I’m an ex-serviceman, so I thought Help for Heroes was the he best charity to choose.” e.”

On December 12, Melvin invited people to see his Christmas lights and donate money to the armed forces charity. He raised £115 and was grateful to everyone who came to support him.

Since then, people have been remarking on his s lights and saying they really enjoyed seeing them.

“It’s just put a smile on some of the faces on the site. Even the site manager came round to say thanks for putting it on for people.

“They look absolutely brilliant. Even my ex-boss and his wife came over and took a video of it and I’ve not seen them in six years. They thought it was brilliant.”

Melvin has lived at Alvaston Mobile Home Park for almost 40 years. He moved in when he returned home from serving with the Royal Corps of Transport.

He hopes to expand his decorations next year and plans to cover his entire roof and garden.

And it’s not just Melvin who has been bitten with the Christmas bug.

“Because I’ve put all my lights up, quite a few people have put their lights up this year. They didn’t bother last year. So hopefully next year it should take off.”
