TRIBUTES have been paid to an “amazing dad” who died after being diagnosed with coronavirus.

Mark Morgan, whose wife also contracted the virus, died in hospital on November 26.

The father-of-two, who was “loved by everybody that he came into contact with”, had been grieving the loss of a family member at the time of his diagnosis.

He died at the age of 38 and his funeral took place earlier this month.

His wife Lisa, 40, explained that her husband was known for providing advice to local people, saying “he would always help anybody” and that “he just wanted to provide for his family”.

She said: “He would put his hand to anything, to just help or just push things forward.

“He was an amazing dad, the kids were always at the forefront of his mind – everything was for them, for their future.”

Mrs Morgan, who lives in Sandiacre, added: “We both contracted Covid. We both tested positive on the same day.

“We went for the tests on October 31, we got our results on November 1. Mark had no underlying health issues at all, nothing.”

After they were diagnosed with the virus, Mrs Morgan said her husband had struggled to breathe.

She called 111 and the call handler sent out an ambulance and he was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital on November 6.

But, despite having several treatments for coronavirus, Mr Morgan sadly died.

Mrs Morgan, who is asthmatic, has made a recovery from the virus.

Neither of the couple’s children – Hollie, 15, and Theo, 11 – were diagnosed with the virus.

Mrs Morgan described the situation as surreal and said: “We just all feel very numb.”

Mr Morgan’s funeral took place on December 16 and Mrs Morgan said: “He was clearly a loved man and not just in this household”.

She said her husband was an entrepreneur who he had been working to create a “data platform” for consumers. Mr Morgan also launched two vape shops with his wife, in Stapleford and Ilkeston, called Hemp HQ, and a sandwich bar, Food 2 U, also in Ilkeston. Mrs Morgan is continuing to run those businesses. The family have also been keen supporters of local charities, from helping the homeless to supporting young people in the community.

Owen Ferron, 35, a friend who worked with Mr Morgan, also paid tribute. The pair launched a Caribbean and English-themed cafe in Long Eaton called The Soul Kitchen.

Mr Ferron, a plasterer and founder of the Insight Community Project, that works with young people, said: “He was like another older brother and my mentor as well because he was a little bit older than me and he knew business a bit more. He taught me so much.

“He’s going to be missed. Over the years I’ve learnt so much from him.

“When we got together and did the Soul Kitchen, it was like my whole life changed from there and my outlook on life changed because he actually gave me the belief I could actually do anything that I wanted to do.

“Since I’ve met him I’ve done so much and I do believe that it is from coming into contact with Mark.”

Mr Ferron, a married dad-of-two, who lives in Long Eaton, said: “His loss was felt by so many people.

“He was a kind person as well and anybody that wanted anything - advice, help with anything - he’d have been there. He was a genuine, nice guy - loved by everybody that he came into contact with.”

We both tested positive on the same day ... Mark had no underlying issues at all.
