‘Explosion’ heard in blaze at home
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED INTO CAUSE OF ‘SERIOUS’ CITY FIRE
PEOPLE living near a serious house e fire in Derby reported hearing an n explosion.
The blaze, in Brighton Road, Alvasston, happened late on Boxing Day.
The cause was being investigated d and it is not yet known if there were e any casualties.
FIREFIGHTERS were called to a serious house fire in Derby after residents claimed they heard an “explosion”.
Derbyshire police and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Brighton Road in Alvaston just after 10pm on Boxing Day.
A fire service spokesman said the incident was “serious” and the circumstances behind it are being investigated.
It is not yet known if anyone was injured.
Firefighters were at the scene for around two hours.
Residents have told how they heard an explosion in the street, which is off London Road.
A spokesman for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were mobilised to the incident at 10.02pm. Three fire crews attended, including Nottingham Road, Long Eaton and Kingsway.
It looked a serious incident. There was still a police car parked outside at 7am this morning. Resident
“The “h cause of f the fire is being investigated and we will be out again this morning.
“Four breathing apparatus and hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire.”
A resident told the Derby Telegraph: “At around 10pm last night Brighton Road was closed off with about eight or nine emergency vehicles including fire engines, police li cars and d emergency response. It looked a serious incident. There was still a police car parked outside at 7am this morning.”
Another resident said: “I’ve just seen some commotion on Commerce Street off London Road and the kids said it was a house explosion.”
No further information about the fire was available at the time of going to press.
