Should gas inspection be carried out now?

-

AFTER 10 very long months of following Government guidelines, washing hands, sanitising, respecting social distance, wearing masks, etc , not visiting friends or family or inviting them into our house and only venturing out for essential reasons, we now find ourselves at the height of a pandemic worse than March 2020.

Advised that this new variant of Covid is rampant and everyone should behave as though they have the virus, I was surprised to be instructed by our local housing provider that a mandatory gas safety inspection is to take place in the next couple if weeks.

I understand the necessity for gas safety checks – but not the timing.

It seems ludicrous at a time whereby I cannot invite a friend to visit under the same roof when I am expected to accept that total stranger who by the nature of his trade goes from property to property contaminating surfaces and possibly poisoning the very air we breathe.

It negates all the due care and diligence of the past 10 months.

While it may be legally right, it is morally wrong at this time.

It would make far more sense to defer such safety checks for three months until both the vaccination and Track and Trace programmes are finally up and running, and the weather is improved sufficiently so the virus is slightly less rampant and any checks may be carried out in comparative safety.

To allow them now, at the height of a pandemic, is ludicrous.
