One lump or two? Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin toasted his membership of the million-dollar-a movie club with a cup of tea during a visit to London.

1967

American civil rights leader Dr Martin Luther King joined in a traditiona­l tea break when he met with a group of student leaders at Newcastle University to talk about the problems of racial prejudice before receiving an honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law.

It was tea cups at dawn as television butlers Donald Sinden (left), who played Robert in ITV sitcom Two’s Company, and Gordon Jackson, best known as Mr Hudson from Upstairs, Downstairs, posed for a TV photoshoot.

The tea flowed when Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe joined Laurence Olivier in England for filming on The Prince and the Showgirl.

It’s only rock ‘n’ roll, but I like tea. Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger found himself craving a brew during a trip to Paris and stopped for a tea break at a local café.

American actor Robert Vaughn found TV fame as secret agent Napoleon Solo in The Man From UNCLE but opted for a cup of tea when he headed to the BBC for a recording of Junior Points of View.

Shall I be mother? Comedy favourite Irene Handl presided over the tea tray during filming of Hancock’s Half Hour with Tony Hancock at Elstree Studios.

G’day mate. Prince Charles enjoyed a cuppa brewed on a camp fire in the Aussie bush when he visited Goodardy Sheep Station in Western Australia.

1965

Irish film star Richard Harris had a reputation as a hell-raiser but was also happy dunking biscuits in a cup of tea.

1963

Muhammad Ali, in the days when he was known as Cassius Clay, decided to try drinking tea the English way, with his little finger in the air when he arrived in London ahead of his non-title fight against Henry Cooper at Wembley.

Are you lonesome for tea? American rock and roll star Elvis Presley took time out for a quick cuppa before attending a press conference in Germany while he was stationed there with the US army.

Comedian Marty Feldman took a break for a brew during filming of his TV series Marty Feldman’s Comedy Machine. Guest stars included Roger Moore, Orson Welles and Groucho Marx.
