10,000 JABS
Local hospitals hit Covid milestone... and Arena to become mass vaccination centre from Monday,
DERBY’S hospital trust has administered its 10,000th dose of the coronavirus vaccine at Royal Derby Hospital.
The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust has reached the milestone just over a month after opening its vaccination hub at the Uttoxeter Road site.
Since handing out its first PfizerBioNTech Covid vaccine on Tuesday, December 8, the trust has given jabs to patients aged 80 and over, frontline health and social care workers, care home staff and residents and the clinically extremely vulnerable.
The 10,000th dose milestone was reached on Friday, January 15, at 9.10am, to the delight of Jade Mitchell, clinical lead for the Covid-19 vaccination hub.
She said: “Working towards this milestone has been such an emotional journey for us all. It has been amazing to meet all of the patients and staff who have come to have their vaccine and hear how
the pandemic has changed their lives. The hub has been a fantastic team effort and I am so proud of the help and support that we have received off so many different colleagues and professions across the trust.
“We couldn’t do what we are doing down here without a whole team UHDB effort.”
Michelle Beedie, a healthcare science associate at the trust, received her first jab at the city hospital last week.
She said: “I feel incredibly privileged and grateful to have had my first Covid jab. Apart from a sore arm for a day, I’ve had no side effects. Well done to the team running the hospital hub. You’re doing a fantastic job of organising the flow of people, keeping everywhere clean and sanitised and putting people at ease. The atmosphere down there was brilliant, everyone seemed really happy to be playing their part in trying to beat this pandemic. Go, team UHDB!”
