Three more die with the virus at local hospitals

THREE more people diagnosed with Covid-19 have died at Derbyshire hospitals, according to the latest NHS figures.

Official Government statistics also show that 151 new cases were recorded across the county in the 24 hours to yesterday.

There were 39 more positive tests in Derby and 112 in the wider county council area. Outside of the city, the highest number of new cases was reported in Erewash, which recorded 22.

There have now been 64,541 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Derby and Derbyshire since the start of the pandemic.

Two of the new deaths were at Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, with one at Chesterfie­ld Royal Hospital.

It means that 1,988 people have died from Covid-19 in Derbyshire since the start of the pandemic.

The Government said a further 548 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 121,305.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificat­e, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 141,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

As of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 8,489 lab-confirmed cases in the UK. It brings the total to 4,134,639.
