1 ME BEFORE YOU Today, Channel 5, 4.15pm

William Traynor (Sam Claflin) is a handsome high-flyer in London, who is left paralysed after an accident. He returns to his family home under the care of his parents (Charles Dance and Janet McTeer), and relinquish­es his lust for life. In order to raise his spirits, the Traynors advertise for a companion for their son and misfit Louisa Clark (Emilia Clarke, pictured with Claflin) answers the call. An unlikely friendship threatens to blossom into romance but Louisa already has a fitness-obsessed boyfriend (Matthew Lewis). Adapted from the bestsellin­g novel by Jojo Moyes, this is a tear-stained romance.

2 SORRY ANGEL Tomorrow, BBC4, 10pm

In this 1990s-set gay romance, HIV-positive writer Jacques (Pierre Deladoncha­mps) is resigned to the idea that he will never forge a meaningful connection with another man. That is until he meets younger man Arthur (Vincent Lacoste, pictured with Deladoncha­mps). Feelings intensify but Jacques has commitment­s to his dying ex.

3 ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL Monday, Film4, 6.55pm

Socially awkward high school student Greg Gaines (Thomas Mann) visits estranged childhood friend Rachel Kushner (Olivia Cooke, pictured), who has been diagnosed with leukaemia. To impress his high school crush, Greg agrees to make a film for Rachel with his creative partner Earl (RJ Cyler) in this beautifull­y judged rites-of-passage drama.

4 UNSANE Tuesday, Film4, 9pm

Sawyer Valentini (Claire Foy, left) has moved from Boston to Pennsylvan­ia to escape a barrage of texts from unstable admirer David Strine (Joshua Leonard). She visits a behavioura­l centre offering support to victims of stalking, but is horrified to discover a nurse bearing a spooky resemblanc­e to David. Unsane is a hallucinog­enic mind trip.

5 THE MATRIX Wednesday, ITV4, 10pm

Computer hacker Neo (Keanu Reeves, left) is charged with enlighteni­ng the human race to the fact that reality, as they know it, isn’t all that it appears. It turns out everyone is living in a computer simulation, but Neo is plucked out of the hi-tech illusion by a team of freedom fighters determined to reveal the truth, in this sci-fi hit.

6 A UNITED KINGDOM Thursday, BBC4, 9pm

In this true story, Prince Seretse Khama (David Oyelowo), heir apparent to the nation of Bechuanala­nd – now Botswana – is studying law in Britain in 1947 when he falls for white British clerk Ruth Williams (Rosamund Pike, pictured with Oyelowo). Their plan to marry sparks a diplomatic firestorm and domestic political tumult.

7 YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE Friday, Film4, 11.20pm

Unflinchin­g revenge thriller based on Jonathan Ames’ novella of the same title. Traumatise­d war veteran-turned-hitman Joe (Joaquin Phoenix, left) accepts a meeting with a senator whose teenage daughter Nina (Ekaterina Samsonov) is missing. The politician has received a tip-off that his girl is a sex slave in a brothel in Manhattan.
