Ten more deaths at our hospitals as almost 130 new cases recorded

ALMOST 130 new coronaviru­s cases were recorded across Derbyshire in the latest 24-hour period, according to Government figures released on Sunday.

There were 129 new cases of coronaviru­s across the county, with 28 in Derby and 101 across the wider Derbyshire area.

Meanwhile, 10 more Covid-19 related deaths have been recorded in Derbyshire hospitals, according to NHS England statistics updated over the weekend.

Seven deaths were within Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust and three at Chesterfie­ld Royal Hospital.

The highest number of new cases across Derbyshire was found in Erewash, where 29 positive tests were returned.

Derbyshire Dales reported the lowest number, with just three new cases in the area.

The Government said a further 144 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Sunday, bringing the UK total to 122,849.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificat­e, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 143,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

As of 9am on Sunday, there had been a further 6,035 lab-confirmed cases in the UK. It brings the total to 4,176,554.

Government data up to February 27 shows that of the 20,885,683 jabs given in the UK so far, 20,089,551 were first doses – a rise of 407,503 on the previous day.

Some 796,132 were second doses, an increase of 27,322 on figures released the previous day.
