Pair sentenced after drugs found at flat

-

A MAN dubbed the “life and soul of the party” fled his Derbyshire flat when police raided it for drugs

While Dalton Hubbard ran out of the door his friend Kyle Turner leapt from a first-floor balcony.

Derby Crown Court heard how Turner was detained at the scene before Hubbard returned a short while later, and was also arrested.

Cannabis, amphetamines and drug paraphernalia was found inside the property and mobile phones were seized from both men. On them were messages showing Hubbard had been sending out mass marketing texts to customers saying he also had cocaine to sell.

Jailing him for 27 months, Recorder Charles Falk said: “Class A drugs are the scourge of society because they lead to people committing other crimes such as burglary, theft and robbery.”

The hearing was told Turner was not involved in dealing class A drugs but did admit to selling cannabis on a small scale. He was handed an 18-month community order, with 70 hours unpaid work.

Jon Savage, prosecuting, said police executed a warrant at Hubbard’s then address in Waverley Court, Chesterfield, on August 24, 2018. He said Hubbard fled the property but Turner jumped from a first floor balcony.

Mr Savage said £350 of Amphetamine, a smaller amount of cannabis, scales and £800 cash were found following a search

Hubbard, 23, now of Chantery Avenue, Newbold, pleaded guilty to supplying cocaine, Ketamine and cannabis. Will Bennett, his barrister, said his client has remained out of trouble for more than two years and is now in a settled relationship.

He said: “He was one of those individuals who was the life and soul of the party. Unfortunately the parties involved drugs.”

Turner, 24, of Dethick Way, North Wingfield, pleaded guilty to supplying and possessing cannabis.
