Rule-breakers warned over visits to lake

-

PEOPLE enjoying the sun at a picturesque lake have been warned against Covid-19 rule-breaking.

According to police, visitors flocked to JCB Lake, off the B5030, in Rocester, at the weekend as the area enjoyed bright sunshine and warmer temperatures.

But officers have warned anyone caught bending lockdown restrictions at the grounds surrounding the JCB factory will face a hefty fine.

PCSO Sean Elliott from Uttoxeter Rural Police said: “There is a light at the end of the tunnel, with vaccinations going well all over the UK. However, we all must continue to adhere to the restrictions, which, in time, will bring an earlier conclusion to this national crisis we have all faced.

“It has been noticed that there has been a significant increase in people enjoying the warmer weather around the lakes at JCB, Rocester.

“Whilst the police continue to engage and advise the public on the restrictions, which we all have to adhere to, we also have powers to issue fixed penalty notices between £200 and £10,000 to persons who are deliberately and dangerously breaking the regulations; and we will issue such penalties, where necessary, without exemption.

“If you are enjoying the warmer weather and out walking, please do so within the government rules. Say safe, keep your distance and wash your hands regularly.”

Under current restrictions it is illegal for people to leave their homes unless it is for essential reasons, such as shopping for essentials, exercise with your household or support bubble – or one person from another household – and medical reasons.

The rules will be eased slightly on March 8.
