Do you have memories of Barnardo’s home?

-

I AM contacting the Derby Telegraph looking for information regarding Morley Manor when it was a Dr Barnardo’s Home.

Did you visit their annual open day within their stunning grounds? It was held on the third Saturday in June.

My name is Kate Harris, né Catherine Hakewill, and I am writing a book about Barnardo’s.

I would appreciate any information relating to the time I worked in Morley Manor, Morley, near Derby, from 1966 to 1969.

It was a Dr Barnardo’s Home of up to 18 children and a baby nursery of 10 babies.

I loved working with the children in our care and have decided to write a book, 55 years after I joined the Dr Barnardo’s Home in 1966.

For the first two years I was a student nursery nurse and attended the Waverley College of Further Education, Nottingham for two days for two years, to study the theory for our NNEB qualification – National Nursery Examination Board.

I stayed a third year as a qualified staff nursery nurse in the home.

If you know anything about the following people who worked within Morley at that time, please let me know.

The cook was Mrs Woolley and the second cook was Mrs Cresswell, who I believe also cleaned in the Home. Mr and Mrs Bull may have been the gardeners and lived in the gatehouse situated at the entrance of Morley.

The odd job men, I think, were Roger East and Bill Jones.

There was also a caretaker and laundry lady, however, I don’t know their names, do you?
