Taylor loss for Burton trip is blow for Posh

-

LEAGUE One leaders Peterborough United, visitors to the Pirelli Stadium tomorrow, will be without key midfielder Jack Taylor, who has been ruled out for five weeks.

Taylor missed Tuesday night’s goalless draw away to Oxford United after picking up a hamstring injury in the final moments of Saturday’s 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic.

The injury has now been assessed and a tendon issue has been diagnosed, similar to one that Taylor suffered in the final game of last season’s shortened campaign.

Posh top scorer Jonson ClarkeHarris is also rated a doubt for tomorrow’s game after picking up an ankle injury at Oxford, while teenager Flynn Clarke has been ruled out for the season with a hip injury.

“Losing Jack is quite a blow for us. He felt something in his hamstring late on against Wigan and we had him scanned on Sunday when a tendon problem was discovered,” said Posh manager Darren Ferguson.

“Something similar happened last season, so we will have to dig deeper into the injury to make sure it’s not something that’s going to keep recurring.

“He’ll miss a fair chunk of the season now and probably only get back for the last five or six matches, but that’s why we have a squad.

“Clarke-Harris was kicked on the ankle. My first instincts are he will be OK but he is a slight doubt.

“We have actually been lucky with injuries this season. Every team will get them and it’s important you find a way of coping.”

Ferguson was left disappointed by Tuesday’s draw but suggested that was a measure of his side’s progress.

“We are coming away to a promotion rival and we are disappointed that we have just taken a point,” he explained.

“However, when you come away from home, it is important to pick something up and there are lots of positives to take. It is another clean sheet. We defended well.”
