Millers turn up the heat

-

ROTHERHAM United’s dramatic win against Sheffield Wednesday saw the battle for survival in the Championship heat up.

Freddie Ladapo’s goal in the seventh minute of added time on Wednesday gave 10-man Rotherham a 1-0 victory in Darren Moore’s first game in charge of the Owls.

The Millers remain third bottom and in the relegation places. They have 32 points but they have closed the gap on Birmingham City and Coventry City to three and have two games in hand on both.

“It’s the nicest walk off a pitch I have ever had. It was like Escape to Victory,” Rotherham boss Paul

Warne told BBC Radio Sheffield after the game at Hillsborough.

“As soon as Freddie hit it I thought it had a chance and then when it hit the net ... wow! I’ve said it loads of times but it was like Disney. I’ll never forget it.”

Wednesday sit second from bottom on 28 points.

“Football has got a funny knack for kicking you right where it really hurts,” Wednesday boss Moore told BBC Radio Sheffield.

Rotherham and Wednesday have away games tomorrow, against Brentford and Reading respectively.

Derby County, who are 18th on 38 points, face Coventry at St Andrew’s in what both managers,

Wayne Rooney and Mark Robins, have described as a “big game”.

Huddersfield Town are 19th and two points above Coventry and Birmingham. The Terriers drew 1-1 with Birmingham on Tuesday.

Birmingham manager Aitor Karanka told BBC Radio WM: “In the past we would have lost that game and now we are better.”

Birmingham are away to in-form Barnsley, while Huddersfield are at home to Cardiff City tonight.

Queens Park Rangers, Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers are all on 40 points, two better off than the Rams.

Wycombe Wanderers lost 2-0 to Watford on Wednesday night and remain bottom on 23 points.
