A further 102 cases of Covid across county as 2 more die

MORE than 100 new cases of coronaviru­s have been recorded in Derbyshire in the last 24 hours, according to official figures.

A total of 102 new cases were discovered in the county, with the highest number recorded in Derby - where 29 positive tests were returned.

South Derbyshire recorded the second highest number of cases, with 14, while North East Derbyshire recorded 13.

The lowest number of cases were found in High Peak and Erewash, which both recorded five new cases.

It brings the total number of coronaviru­s cases found in Derbyshire to 67,183.

Meanwhile, another two people have died from Covid-related illnesses in local NHS hospitals.

Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust and Chesterfie­ld Royal Hospital both recorded a death in the latest 24-hour period.

The total number of new cases reported in Derbyshire:

■■Amber Valley - 8,429 (nine new cases)

■■Bolsover - 5,799 (10 new cases)

■■Chesterfie­ld - 5,977 (11 new cases)

■■Derby - 19,608 (29 new cases)

■■Derbyshire Dales - 2,852 (six new cases)

■■Erewash - 6,844 (five new cases)

■■High Peak - 4,795 (five new cases)

■■North East Derbyshire - 5,802 (13 new cases)

■■South Derbyshire - 7,077 (14 new cases)

The Government said that, as of 9am on Monday, there had been a further 5,089 lab-confirmed cases in the UK.

It brings the total to 4,263,527. Locally, the number of Covid-related hospital deaths since the start of the pandemic is as follows:

■■Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust - 1,619 (one new death)

■■Chesterfie­ld Royal Hospital - 411 (one new death)

■■Derbyshire Community Health Services - 37 (no change)

■■Derbyshire Healthcare - 2 (no change)

Government data up to March 13 shows that of the 26,063,501 jabs given in the UK so far, 24,453,221 were first doses – a rise of 257,010 on the previous day.

Some 1,610,280 were second doses, an increase of 25,371.
