Taylor is a gem Albion must treat carefully

TERRY Taylor will continue to be nurtured carefully by Burton Albion, says manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

The 19-year-old midfielder, a January signing from Wolves, made his full debut on Saturday against Crewe Alexandra, following five substitute appearances.

Born in Scotland, for whom he played under-17 and under-18 internationals, Taylor also has four Wales Under-21 caps, qualifying through his mother.

He played 14 games in League Two on loan with Grimsby Town this season before being recalled for his transfer to Burton.

Hasselbaink is convinced he has a gem on his hands and nothing about Taylor’s composed 90 minutes against Crewe that as a view. holding midfielder changed

“Terry is one for the future, who I want to give as many minutes to as possible but we have to be careful with him,” he said.

“He’s going to be an exceptional player, I think, but he has come straight out of academy football, the under-23s. He’s been out on loan to Grimsby. That was a big shock to him, but that was good.

“Now he’s come to us and we are expecting certain things of him that he has never done before.

“We have to give him the time and we have to feed him in at the right times.

“We really like him, we think the world of him. He’s a good kid who really wants to make it in football and wants to work as well. He’s a pleasure to have around.”

Of Taylor’s efforts against Crewe, the manager added: “Terry had a mature performance. “He’s eager to learn, which we like, he’s very good on the ball and did himself proud. He did a lot of good.

“Now, can he kick on? That is his challenge.”
