A TEENAGER from Derbyshire has died in a motorway crash.

The 18-year-old was a passenger in a car travelling on the M42 when it reportedly collided with signage and careered off the road.

Police, fire crews and paramedics were all called on Sunday evening, to the southbound carriageway of the motorway, between junctions 3 and 2 at Alvechurch, Worcestershire.

On arriving at around 8.15pm, emergency crews found a white Audi A3 had left the carriageway and ended up down an embankment.

Two men, a driver and passenger, had managed to get out of the vehicle and were described as “walking wounded”. But a third man, the currently unnamed passenger from Derbyshire, was trapped and in a critical condition. Paramedics carried out treatment but he died at the scene.

PC Rich Allen from West Mercia Police’s Operations Patrol Unit said: “This is a sad incident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased man.

“We are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage of the area around the time of the incident to submit this to us via Operation Snap on our website to help with our investigation. If anyone has information or saw this collision take place, contact 01527 583766 quoting reference 562i 14 March.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said previously: “The first crew arrived on scene to find a car down an embankment. Two men, the driver and passenger, had managed to selfextricate from the vehicle and were described as ‘walking wounded’.

“Both men were given treatment for non-serious injuries before being conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham as a precaution.

“A third man, a passenger, was trapped and in a critical condition. Ambulance staff worked together with fire colleagues to rapidly extricate him from the vehicle, before commencing advanced life support.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of everyone on scene nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed deceased on scene.”
